about us

Serving Generations with the Gospel

Christ Church Galle Face, founded in 1853 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS), has long stood as a vibrant evangelical center of worship in Colombo. Built with a vision of unity among people of all races and backgrounds, the church continues to reflect this mission through its multilingual services and diverse congregation.

Rooted in simplicity, strong biblical teaching, and rich musical worship, Christ Church has faithfully served the community for over a century. Despite the changing city around it, the church remains committed to sharing the Gospel of peace and ministering to the spiritual needs of all who gather within its walls.

Our Mission

Our Mission to Serve, Love, and Grow

Our mission is to declare and demonstrate the liberating power of the Gospel.

Christ Church Galle Face Tamil Congregation has been called by the saving and sustaining Grace of the Trinitarian God. We exist to declare and demonstrate the liberating power of the Gospel. We live by faith, we desire to be known by love, and to be a voice of hope, in the society where God has placed us.

Priest’s Message

Message from the Vicar

Welcome to Christ Church, Galle Face—an enduring sanctuary of faith and unity in the heart of Colombo. Since its consecration on 13 October 1853, this sacred House of God has stood as a witness to the faithful mission of early pioneers and continues to offer a place of peace, reflection, and spiritual renewal amidst the busy city.

For many years, the church was served by two Vicars—one for the English Congregation and one for the Tamil Congregation—faithfully ministering to the spiritual needs of both communities. After 165 years, in 2017, Christ Church Galle Face was brought under the leadership of one Vicar, the Revd. Fr. Charles Gnaniah, with the support of an Assistant Curate. This significant step marked a new chapter in the life of the church, uniting both congregations under one spiritual leadership and strengthening the bond of fellowship in Christ. Together, we continue to live out our vision: “The union of races in the church of Christ.”

We warmly invite you to join us in worship and fellowship. Our Sunday Holy Eucharist services are held as follows:
English Holy Eucharist at 7.00 a.m., 10.30 a.m., and 6.00 p.m., and Tamil Holy Eucharist at 8.15 a.m. Each service offers a meaningful opportunity to grow in faith, experience God’s grace, and be strengthened through His Word and Sacrament.

We also invite you to be part of our mission and ministry, reaching out in love and service to our wider community. Your presence and participation will be a great blessing as we continue to work together for the spiritual growth of our church and the well-being of all.

Yours In Christ

Message from the Assistant Curate

Greetings to you all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On behalf of Christ Church GalleFace, we warmly welcome you. We are delighted that you have joined the ministry of the Church through this website.

Though we are many members of the Body of Christ, living in different places, it is important that we remain united in Him as we journey toward the Kingdom of God.

As our Lord Jesus Christ commanded us to “go into all the world and be His witnesses,” we are glad to have you join us in sharing His love and our testimonies through this digital platform.

Therefore, let us work together in Christ and live as His witnesses to all people.

May the Grace & Blessings of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Amen.
